Hitchcocks is a Brazilian quartet based in Sao Paulo, blending Surf Music, Garage Rock, and B-movie soundtracks. The band, which has been active since the early 2000s, is known for a “surf-spooky” sound characterized by heavy reverb and synthesizers.
Key Milestones and Career Highlights:
2008 EP: Released their first, independent EP.
2010 DVD: Released “No escuro com os Hitchcocks” (In the Dark with the Hitchcocks), produced by Kana Filmes.
Soundtracks: Recorded soundtracks for the short films “Desalmados” (2011) and “Necrochorume” (2012), directed by Gelsla Fernandes.
“It’s Alive!” (2018): Released this 12-track album, described as an “intergalactic surf-gothic mix” featuring tracks like “Distúrbios em Marte” (Disturbance on Mars) and “Surfin Munsters”. The album was released through Latitude Zero Records and Surf Cookie Records.
2020 45″ Vinyl: Released a 7″ vinyl EP in 2020 in partnership with the US label Missing Fink Records.
Official Logo: The band’s logo was created by American artist/cartoonist Stephen Blickenstaff.
Compilations: Participated in various national and international compilations (Veneno Record/Mexico, Dead By Mono/UK, Mercosurf/Mexico, Wildstone Records/Brazil).
Musical Style and Influence:
The band’s aesthetic is heavily influenced by sci-fi, horror, and B-movies, often utilizing robotic echoes and new wave influences. Their sound is frequently described as a mix of traditional surf music with horror-themed rockabilly or psychobilly elements.
